A look back…and a look ahead…

As 2009 comes to an end, I find myself in awe at how fast the time flies! When I was a child, it seemed, at times, like time almost stood still. Think how long it took for Saturday to roll around each week? It seemed like I would never turn 16 so I could drive. The time when school started in August each year until Christmas break took forever! Now it seems like I can’t hold onto time long enough.

Anyway, here we are at the end of another year (another decade, even). As I look back on 2009, it was a pretty intense year. It brought many reasons to celebrate, though probably none as big as my wedding. In May, I married Jeff, the most amazing man and truly the love of my life! Other celebrations included: the news that my mother-in-law’s cancer is in remission! The sale of my townhouse! A beautiful kitchen renovation in our home (yes, I know I still have to post photos!). Reconnecting with old high school and college friends via Facebook. Several friends having babies. And, taking a leap of faith to start a photography business.

2009 also brought some scares, some disappointments and some sadness: uncertainty in the pharmaceutical industry (and Jeff’s job). My dad unexpectedly ending up in the hospital for a week (thank God he’s fine).  My friend Lisa moving to Mississippi and my boss and good friend Patrena leaving her job, family and friends to move halfway across the country to take a job in Oklahoma (I still miss both terribly!). My beloved Wolfpack football team tanking this season (though we DID beat the ‘Heels again!). The deaths of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson (unfathomable!), two major icons from my childhood that signaled the end of an era, of sorts.

So, here I sit on the brink of a new year. No more looking back – it’s time to look to the future and gear up for 2010. I don’t “do” resolutions, but I DO “do” goals. So, here are my GOALS for 2010.

I WILL:

  • Savor all the little moments with my husband, family and friends (especially my husband) and bask in all the happy times in life.
  • Prioritize what’s really important in life and let go of the things that really don’t matter.
  • Refocus my relationships: nurture those that are healthy and purge the unhealthy ones.
  • Have a successful photography business, based on my own definition of success
  • Remember to give credit for all my blessings and successes to Christ and to put Him first in all that I do.

Goodbye 2009!

Should Old Acquaintance be forgot, and never thought upon;
The flames of Love extinguished, and fully past and gone:
Is thy sweet Heart now grown so cold, that loving Breast of thine;
That thou canst never once reflect on Old long syne.

On Old long syne my Jo, in Old long syne,
That thou canst never once reflect, on Old long syne.

Since I’ve been reminiscing a bit, here are a few images from the best day of my 2009:
