a modern day “bettie”

Last Thursday, I happened upon the Bettie Page store in the Shops at Miracle Mile in Vegas. Initially drawn in by the cutest clothes ever, I was quickly mesmerized by the 50’s jukebox, the antique dressers, and the sofa made from an old car, complete with rocket tail lights. I was excitedly thinking this would be a great location for a photo shoot when I saw her. Molly. A gorgeous creature wearing a red poodle-style skirt and black cardigan, as if she had just stepped out of the 50s. A modern-day Bettie Page. I knew right then what I had to do. I had to know if she would allow me to photograph her…right there in the store! Molly agreed and after Carla, the store manager, made a quick phone call to the owners for approval, it was a done deal. We had a photo shoot lined up for Friday morning before the store actually opened to customers.

When we arrived on Friday, Carla gave my friend Jennifer (who was assisting me) and me full run of the store. We spent a few minutes going through all the clothes to find just the right looks for Molly (Yes, Molly is wearing clothes right off the racks during the shoot! – I told you they are super cute!), and then we got down to business. What a great time we had! Molly is so gorgeous and was so willing to try anything we suggested that she really made shooting easy.

My sincerest thank you to Molly, Carla and the owners for allowing me to pull this shoot off! I already have other ideas and am hoping for a repeat shoot the next time I’m in Vegas!

For those of you who may have never heard of Bettie Page, she was a legendary pinup queen from the 1950s. She passed away in December 2008 at age 85.
