Durham Duke Chapel wedding | Sophie + Nick

Every now and again, two stars collide forming the most perfect union. And sometimes, as the song goes, these stars are over Texas. Sophie grew up a Durham girl, but it was in Texas that she found her true love.

Two years after moving to Texas (by way of Richmond and then Pasadena) to take a job at First Presbyterian Church in Arlington, she met Nick. They shared a passion for sports – particularly running – but remained friends for the longest time. They also shared fun-loving-don’t-take-yourselves-too-seriously personalities, and it soon became obvious to everyone around them that these two stars were destined for far more than friendship. And so it began. A romantic relationship filled with mutual respect, complete adoration, the comfort of an old Texas cowboy boot, and loads of laughter. A year after they began dating, Nick proposed at Rangers Stadium.

Though she’s a Texas rose now, Sophie knew she had to pay homage to her Bull City roots and get married at Duke Chapel here in her hometown. So there, on that grand altar, in front of friends and family from coast to coast, they promised to love and honor each other. To remain the best of friends. To fill each day with laughter. (And maybe even to root for the Texas Rangers). And so it was. Two bright stars becoming one. To shine over Texas for all eternity.

Sophie and Nick, you two are incredible! You’re both so warm and genuine and you bring such joy to everyone who meets you! Thank you for allowing me to capture your love and to document this first day in your new life together. I am truly blessed to know you and appreciate the friendship that we’ve developed! I wish you nothing but love and happiness (and perhaps a few losses to the Atlanta Braves) as you grow old together! Much love… OXOX ~R

Sophie had two “Something Borrowed” elements on her wedding day. She wore the wedding dress of a very dear friend (and cancer survivor) as a tribute to her and honored her mother by wearing the veil she wore when she married Sophie’s dad.  I just love this image of Sophie and her parents.  How cute is Nick’s nephew, who was the ring bearer?

A very sweet “first look”…

How gorgeous is Duke Chapel? One of my favorite places to photograph!
This sweet moment of Sophie and her daddy just before walking down the aisle just makes me smile!
It was a little breezy…

A custom chocolate bar with Sophie’s home state of NC and Nick’s home state of Texas on it made for a fun ring shot…

With the last of the portraits taken, it was time to head to Hope Valley Country Club for a fun reception.
As favors for their guests, Sophie and Nick sent them home with cupcakes….
And – to pay tribute to her North Carolina roots….RC Colas and Moonpies!
I just LOVE this image of Nick’s dad and stepmom watching the happy couple during their first dance… What started out very sweet….got a little spirited….
LOVED the Texas Rangers groom’s cake!
This just makes me laugh… Saying goodbye – amidst a shower of rose petals and marshmallows…

A huge thank you to my friend Heather Lauffer for photographing this wedding with me! Always fun times with you along!
