Fashionista Friday: Vera Wang gown “Holly”

Given my background and history in fashion and design (don’t know that story? just ask me…), my love for fabulous frocks and my Carrie-Bradshaw-like obsession for shoes, it seems only fitting to have a regular blog post centered around fashion. So, I’m now dubbing Fridays as the day for all things fashion around here…hence the new name…Fashionista Friday! Here I’ll post everything from my favorite wedding gowns and shoes to new trends in everyday fashion to highlights from some of my favorite designers. I’ll even post tips on fashion for engagement and other types of photo sessions as well. Outside of the weddings and sessions I photograph and feature (and my husband Jeff, of course, though he hates when he appears on the blog!), this may easily be my favorite topic to share with you! Can you tell I’m excited?

So, to kick off this first Fashionista Friday of February (whew! that’s a tongue twister right there)…here is one of my very favorites from the 2012 Vera Wang collection.

This is HOLLY. Holly is a very sculpted, sophisticated mermaid gown, in a new color called Petal. It’s a very delicate dusty pink, and it takes inspiration from those classic scenes of the Parisian ballet, those graceful young dancers that Degas captured for all time.

Aside from the unusual color, the bottom of this dress just does it for me. There are over 200 hand-cut organza petals on the bottom of this gown and when the bride walks, Vera likens it to a “big swooning burst of springtime.” What bride doesn’t want to feel like that on her wedding day?

Tell me what you think – do you love it or hate it? Would you wear it? Why or why not?

If Holly isn’t enough for you, check out the entire Vera Wang Spring 2012 runway show — it’s full of all sorts of fabulousness!
