Fashionista Friday | On the Red Carpet: Favorite Oscar Dresses from years past

IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER INSTALLMENT of Fashionista Friday, y’all! It’s also Oscar Weekend. And what better topic for today than my favorite Oscar dresses from years past! I know there are people who get all caught up in who’s nominated and who wins. And that’s great! It’s an incredible accomplishment for those actors. I actually find the whole awards thing a bit on the boring side and, if I’m being honest, I usually don’t care who actually wins the awards. What I enjoy watching are the glorious, glamourous dresses as the celebrities walk the Red Carpet. Give me the fashion pre-show over the actual award show any day to the week!

So all the buzz about who will be wearing what this Sunday started me thinking about some of my favorite fashion moments from the past.  Personally, I tend to favor old Hollywood glamour – classic styles that will never get old – like these:

Julia Roberts’ vintage (1982) Valentino gown that was worn in 2001 is still on many “best dressed” “most memorable” and “fashion icon” lists. Pretty Woman never looked prettier! (Photo: starworksartists.com)

Sandra Bullock looked amazing in this Vera Wang strapless mermaid gown in 2011 – butt bow and all! (Photo: aliexpress.com)

Lots of Vampire-hype surrounding Twilight actress Kristen Stewart, and she looked beautiful in this silk Monique Lhuillier gown. (Photo: omgeemag.onsugar.com)

Heidi Klum looked incredible in her silk Haute Couture gown by John Galliano. Hers was a classic gown with a modern twist and ruby-red jewelry completed the look beautifully. (Photo: myarmadio.net)

Jessica Alba’s 2006 Versace gown was one to remember – the perfect mix of feminine, classic and sexy. Nothing short of stunning! (Photo: redvinesforbreakfast.blogspot.com)

Milla Jovovich wowed the crowds with her Elie Saab gown at the 2012 Oscars. The dress…the hair…the red lips….Perfection in any era! (Photo: thefasion-court.com)

One of my all-time favorites is Gwyneth Paltrow’s pink ballerina ball gown from 1999. Designed by Ralph Lauren, it’s the ultimate girlie-girl gown – and who can argue with pink?! (Photo: blogher.com)

I always look forward to seeing what Halle Berry will be wearing. She’s at the top of my favorite list every year. She looked amazing in this raspberry-red chiffon Elie Saab couture gown in 2011. Breathtaking! (Photo: redcarpet-fashionawards.com)
