Sisters: Fiona & Cierra

When I first created my Facebook fan page, I ran a NEW FAN promotion, offering a complimentary 1 hour session and 8×10 gift print to the 100th person to “fan” my page. Having never done anything like this before, I was a little nervous and didn’t know how well it might be received. I prayed that at least 100 people would actually visit the page and hoped they would find reason to actually become a fan of my work (i actually don’t like that term ‘fan’ as it seems like it should be reserved for superstars, not ordinary folks like me…but i digress).  So I waited and I watched. I watched and I waited. And THEN….there it was. Fan #100 — Jaci Kincaid.

Jaci has two daughters — 11 year old Cierra and 7 year old Fiona, and she wanted photos of the two of them together. I was excited to book this session with her and we planned for mid-December. Who knew Raleigh would have a monsoon season this year and that our session date would fall right in the middle of it? So we decided to postpone and reconnect after the holidays. We settled on an alternate date, and wouldn’t you know that day just happened to be the start of our uncharacteristic super-cold spell. I think the high was a balmy 33 that day, but we weren’t going to let a little thing like the cold stop us. We met at Pullen Park which, unbeknownest to us at the time, is closed for renovation through the Spring of 2011 (what’s a little trespassing among friends, right?). It was kind of cool having the whole park to ourselves – Cierra and Fiona are great kids and were a lot of fun to shoot. They’re visiting the Big Mouse and his friends down in Florida right now, so I’m not sure when they will see this post. Hopefully it will be a fun surprise for them when they get back.
